Things to practice as a Lash artist

1. Taping back the already lashed eyelashes to reach and easily find those pesky 2nd or 3rd layer lashes. Practicing this step can give the eyelashes the big, full effect we want by ensuring we reach every single lash that might have been hidden or otherwise overlooked. There are a few things to think about when practicing this step. First, you want to put the tape as close as possible to the edge of the extensions you have already applied, taping them too close to the base could cause tugging and irritation for your client. Keep in mind not to use any extra sticky tape, medical tape is my preference but even medical tapes can vary. If you find the tape you are using is too sticky, you might find it helpful to stick the tape to the back of your hand before taping back the lashes. This will take away some of the "stick" so the existing lash extensions won't be peeled off when removing the tape. Knowing this step will add more fullness to your clients lashes in a way they haven't seen from other lash artists.

2. Never glue the entire eyelash extension to the natural lash. Natural eyelashes point in many different directions. Using minimal glue allows you to keep the lashes pointed upward in the direction you want, while also keeping them flexible. In order to create a good set, you want to adhere the eyelash extensions only one millimeter from the natural lash base, use an essential amount of glue, and direct the tips in the direction you are wanting them to go. Knowing this will help you to style and shape the lashes like a real professional.

3. Analyze the eyes to figure out what style will look best on your client. The best way to create a style that is unique and fitting for your client is to use different types of curls and lengths that will flatter their eye shape. 8mm lashes used in the corners of the eyes and between longer lashes help to avoid empty gaps in the eyes and your sets will appear fuller. Practice using D or L curls on the outside corner lashes will help lift the eyes to make them appear larger. Refer to our blog "Lashes and Eyeshapes" to learn more ways to flatter different types of eyeshapes with lash extensions. Mastering this tip alone will make it hard for your clients to go to anyone else but you because they will love their new set personalized just for them!

My cousin wants to have longer looking lashes for a party that she will be attending next week. It was explained here that she should not glue the extension to the natural lash. Moreover, it's recommended to go to a trusted beauty salon for quality lash extension services.

I like your comment on the different styles of eyelashes extensions on different people. I have been looking into lash extensions. I believe they would complement my face well. I want to surprise my sister for her birthday. I will be looking for a professional who can help me with this issue.

I liked that you mentioned to never glue the entire eyelash extension to the natural lash. I have a daughter that has really wanted eyelash extensions for her dance recital coming up. I would love to look into some professional eyelash extension products to help her feel beautiful on her big event night.

Solid tips for the aspiring lash artists and even for those who want to improve their craft!

Tip #3 is such an underrated tip as artists tend to just put whatever THEY think is good rather than whats best for the shape of user's eye and accentuate their beauty. #thumbsup

I love that you talked about making sure you don't glue the entire extension to the natural eyelash. My husband and I are looking for an eyelash extension training course that we can go through to start his own little business. We will keep these tips in mind as we search for a professional that can help us best.

I like that you talked about how professionals should know the style best for their clients by analyzing their eyes. I hope that I find a professional that I can trust to get water-resistant eyelash extensions this weekend. It's because I wanted to have nice-looking eyes when we get our pre-nuptial photoshoot.
